"I grew up in Tivoli and I knew I loved it long before I ever figured out what it said backwards. And I, like many of you, love it now.
This is a singular and special place. It is intimate and it is authentic. Many people recognize this but it's often hard to put into words just why Tivoli is so cool. It's got history, architecture, an incredible natural setting, and of course a broadly diverse and very colorful cast of characters.
It's an artsy place. It's an arts community. A few years ago Tangent came to Tivoli and since that time, with every reading at the pub and every performance at The Carpenter Shop Theatre, I feel like Tangent has back-filled that Arts reputation. Since they’ve been here working, Tivoli can truly live up to the label.
Is Tivoli an arts community? Of course, we have Tangent Theatre. An Arts Community is an identity we can build a future on - and in my opinion it was when Tangent theater came to town that the identity, after years of wobbling, became fixed.
And isn’t it appropriate, isn’t it fitting, that an intimate, authentic and exceptional village should have an intimate, authentic and exceptional theater? How perfect. A lot of people want to go where the action is. But when you are the action, you can choose where you want to be, and you can do something good with it.
Michael and Andrea and Tangent have chosen Tivoli. And they are boosting this place. Tangent Theatre IS the action. Anyone who has seen a play or two at Tangent doesn’t need me to tell you about the quality of the productions, the excellence of the acting and directing, or the caliber of the material.
Tangent is top notch, first rate, and it's right here in Tivoli - nowhere else. We are fortunate in this and we should support Tangent in any attempt to grow broader branches and deeper roots. Tangent gets community. Tangent supports others in the Village and does not stand alone and aloof - but rather - integrates and collaborates. I applaud this attitude in how you operate. Your work adds so much to life here in Tivoli."
