"The best things come from the talents that are members of a group; every one works better when they have companions working in the same line, and yielding the stimulus of suggestion, comparison, emulation." -- Henry James
Tangent Theatre Company is quickly becoming one of the most respected professional theater companies in the Hudson Valley. In our intimate Carpenter Shop Theater, in the heart of Tivoli's historic village, Tangent presents gripping, character-driven works that are heartfelt and personal to the company, and speak to our core mission: truth is the motive.
Known for our compelling dramas, popular pub-readings and our NEWvember New Plays Festival, the Tangent ensemble is made up of local and regional talents.
Tangent was founded in New York City in 2000 by Hudson Valley natives Andrea and Michael Rhodes and Keith Teller, where we produced main-stage plays such as our original Subway Series and a 50th anniversary production of Samuel Beckett's classic Waiting for Godot, to name a few. We also launched our signature pub-readings at a favorite Irish pub in the west village, called Mr. Dennehy's. Seeking creative and personal change, Tangent relocated to Northern Dutchess County in 2009.
